Editorial Methodology
How we research, rate, and update our reviews of Possible Finance and competing small-dollar loan products. Every claim on this site traces to a verifiable source.
Overview
Possible Loans reviews small-dollar loan products with a focus on accuracy, transparency, and relevance for borrowers with limited credit options. Our methodology follows the research standards outlined in the FTC's guidance on consumer financial reviews and aligns with the source-verification requirements that Google's Search Quality Rater Guidelines define for "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) content.
This page describes:
- What data sources we use and how we verify them
- How our rating system works
- How often content is reviewed and updated
- How we handle corrections
- How affiliate compensation is disclosed and isolated from editorial decisions
Primary data sources
Every factual claim in a Possible Loans review is traceable to one of the following primary source categories:
1. Regulatory filings and public records
- NMLS Consumer Access (nmlsconsumeraccess.org) — license status, state registrations, company history
- CFPB Complaint Database (consumerfinance.gov) — complaint volume and category breakdown
- State banking regulator websites — CA DFPI, WA DFI, OH DFI, TX OCCC, and others as applicable
- SEC EDGAR — for publicly traded parent companies where applicable
- FTC enforcement database — for any enforcement actions against lenders reviewed
2. Lender-published terms
- Product terms, fee schedules, and eligibility criteria published on the lender's official website
- Loan agreements and disclosure forms where publicly available
- App store listings (iOS App Store, Google Play) for version history and update notes
3. Customer experience aggregators
- Better Business Bureau — accreditation status, complaint count and categories, customer reviews
- Trustpilot — verified review volume and theme analysis (minimum 50 reviews required before citing)
- PissedConsumer — complaint pattern identification (used for negative experience signals only)
- Reddit (r/personalfinance, r/povertyfinance) — borrower experience anecdotes (cited as "community reports," not primary data)
4. External research and expert sources
- Pew Charitable Trusts — small-dollar lending research series
- National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) — consumer lending policy analysis
- Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) — high-cost lending research
- CFPB Research Reports — market data on small-dollar credit usage
- Federal Reserve Consumer Finance Research — household financial fragility data
Our rating system
Possible Loans uses a 5-point rating scale for product reviews, weighted across six dimensions:
| Dimension | Weight | What we measure |
|---|---|---|
| Cost transparency | 25% | APR disclosure clarity, fee structure simplicity, total cost of credit |
| Accessibility | 20% | Eligibility requirements, state availability, application friction |
| Consumer protections | 20% | Late fee policy, rollover policy, NSF fee policy, collections practices |
| Credit impact | 15% | Bureau reporting (positive), hard inquiry policy, credit-building value |
| Customer experience | 12% | Support accessibility, funding speed, app reliability (from review sources above) |
| Regulatory standing | 8% | License status, CFPB complaint patterns, enforcement history |
Ratings are calculated at the time of review, documented internally, and recalculated whenever a material product change (fee change, policy change, new state availability, enforcement action) occurs.
Possible Finance's current rating of 3.2/5 reflects its strong consumer protection policies (no late fees, no rollovers) offset by its high APR (65%–163%), below-average customer support access (email/in-app only), and limited state availability (34 states).
Update and review policy
All product reviews on Possible Loans are reviewed on the following schedule:
- Routine review: Every 30 days — fee schedules, state availability, app version changes, and Trustpilot/BBB rating movement are rechecked
- Triggered review: Within 5 business days of any material change — regulatory action, publicly announced fee change, product discontinuation, or significant customer experience shift
- Annual full audit: Complete re-research of all primary sources at least once per calendar year
The "Last updated" date on each review page reflects the most recent routine or triggered review, not the original publication date.
Correction policy
We correct factual errors promptly. If you find an error:
- Email editorial@possibleloansfinance.com with the URL of the affected page, the specific claim, and the correction you believe is accurate (with source if available)
- We acknowledge all correction requests within 2 business days
- If the correction is valid, we update the content and add a correction note at the bottom of the page indicating what was changed and when
- We do not silently delete incorrect content — corrections are transparently noted
Affiliate compensation and independence
Possible Loans earns revenue through affiliate referral arrangements with lenders and financial product platforms. Specifically:
- When a reader completes an application through a link on this site marked with a partner, we may receive a referral fee from the lender or matching platform
- The lead-generation form embedded on certain pages (powered by APIdiamond, partner ID 16727) connects readers to a network of lenders and may generate revenue when readers complete applications
- EarnIn, Brigit, Dave, MoneyLion, OppLoans, CashUSA, PersonalLoans.com, and BadCreditLoans.com are mentioned as alternatives throughout this site; some of these relationships may be compensated
What compensation does not influence: product ratings, which products we recommend over others, whether we list a product's limitations, which alternatives we recommend, or whether we publish negative findings about a partner product.
Verification: Our Possible Finance rating of 3.2/5 — below the midpoint — reflects the product's actual characteristics. We did not inflate this rating because Possible Finance or APIdiamond are revenue partners.
What we don't do
- We do not publish individual author bylines backed by fabricated credentials or unverifiable professional titles
- We do not accept payment to publish, alter, or remove reviews
- We do not reproduce lender marketing claims without independent verification
- We do not guarantee approval outcomes or make income promises
- We do not cite APRs without disclosing the full range (best-case to worst-case)
- We do not use dark patterns to conceal affiliate relationships
